What to wear to your child’s First Communion? Communion dress code
Holy Communion is an extremely elegant occasion, the centrepiece of which are the ceremonies taking place in the Church. For this reason, it is particularly important in the choice of styling for Communion – to ensure that the outfit, especially that of the Mum or Godmother, is appropriate to the rank and specificity of the ceremony. The generally accepted dress code for occasions held in the temple is to dress elegantly and chicly, yet modestly. This elegance and modesty in dressing should be manifested first and foremost in taking care of the appropriate length and cut of the chosen dress, costume or suit.
A good choice for a child’s First Communion is certainly a formal dress or suit that is fitted, but not too tight. It’s also important to choose an optimum length – one that emphasises the legs nicely but is not uncomfortable, for example when sitting in the church pew. The recommended length is certainly knee-length or slightly below the knee.

White shades matched to your colour type, beiges, caramels or browns will work well. Pastels are also certainly a good choice.

In addition to a muted colour scheme, it is a good idea to avoid intense patterns or textures that will unnecessarily distract from the overall look. It’s also a good idea to choose a dress or suit with a fitted top and clearly defined waist. In particular, vertical lines on the silhouette and slimming necklines (asymmetry or the popular V-neck) work well.
